A couple weeks ago I shared Carlie and Brian’s wonderful Toronto wedding with you here

Brian and Carlie’s Knox Chapel and Fermenting Cellar Wedding

The only unfortunate part of their entire wedding day was that Brian’s Grandfather was too ill to leave his care home and had to miss the wonderful day.  Being the kind and wonderful people that Brian and Carlie truly are they came up with a game plan.

The very next weekend they headed to Brian’s Grandfathers care home and restaged the entire wedding.  Everyone at the home had their hair and makeup done.  They got dressed in their best outfits and watched the ceremony take place once again, in the care centre.

Here is the email from Brian.

So on the weekend Carlie and I came home to get re-married.. no not because we got divorced after our honeymoon, but rather so my grandpa could witness his grandson marry his new beautiful grand daughter in-law. As grandpa has to remain at his care home, we wanted very badly to share a wedding experience with him, and his fellow residents.
We arranged it with the care home “Country Lane” in rural Chatsworth, ON. So many staff, volunteers, and most residents were present for the small ceremony, which had a very proud grandpa at the front of the room in his chair. He was dressed in a smart suit jacket, boutiniere, and tie. He looked so handsome.
All week leading up to the wedding, the care residents were getting their nails done, and hair, in preparation for what they called ‘the big wedding”. We had their organist, Hazel, and weekly minister, John, carry out the ceremony for us. My sister was the maid of honour and my uncle John, the best man. We got to walk down the aisle, created by separated chairs in their lunch room. The minister performed a few blessings, we did a ring exchange, and a kiss, which got the residents cheering and laughing.
It was truly a memorable experience to witness my grandpa looking so handsome, and actually having a day to smile, and alert, and even to say a few words on how he thought “today is a great day”..and noticing him saying “his big family”. It really was a great day for him, and many others who really seemed to enjoy it, and we definitely were so happy. Grandma said that was the most responsive, and happy he has been. We all toasted with apple juice, and enjoyed a big wedding cake. After we left the home, he told the care nurses that he was going to wear his suit and tie for the rest of the evening.

Here are a couple snapshots from the big day

This job has allowed me to meet so many wonderful people with the biggest hearts in the world.  I get a chance to be close to their families and become apart of their lives.  If I knew I would get a chance to meet people like Brian and Carlie sooner, I would have started this career much earlier in my life.

Thanks for letting me share your story B&C.  I think you two are amazing.  So happy I had the chance to get to know you both.
